Calculates waste-adjusted concrete volume for mixed slab, strip, pad, and circular elements, compares bag and ready-mix logistics, and estimates a user-specified rebar, mesh, or entered reinforcement quantity.

Governing relationships

For rectangular slab, strip, or pad row j, gross volume is:

For a circular row it is:

V_g,j is in ft^3. q_j is element count, L_j and W_j or diameter d_j are feet, and depth/thickness t_j is inches. Net volume over included rows is:

V_net = sum(V_g,j - V_void,j)

V_void,j is the entered row deduction (ft^3).

Waste-adjusted concrete and order volume are:

V_w = V_net(1+w)

V_order = V_w/27

V_w is in ft^3, V_order is in yd^3, and w is the waste fraction. Whole bags are:

N_bag = ceil(V_w/y_bag)

y_bag is in ft^3/bag. Ready-mix volume is:

V_ready = max(V_min, ceil(V_order/inc) inc)

inc is the order increment and V_min is minimum order (yd^3). Truck count is that volume divided by truck capacity and rounded upward.

Bag cost is whole bags times entered bag price. Ready-mix cost is rounded volume times unit price plus the active short-load fee. Rebar and mesh routes use the entered clear plan dimensions, spacings, stock length or effective overlapped sheet coverage, and upward whole-unit rounding; the entered-quantity route passes through the user quantity. These are quantity relationships, not structural reinforcement design.

Calculation sequence

  1. Validate every active selector, scalar bound, type, and every fixed-grid entry.
  2. Apply the selected route and ignore values from inactive fields.
  3. Normalize unit-dependent inputs into the workbook's calculation basis.
  4. Evaluate every included row or candidate and aggregate the active schedule.
  5. Calculate primary and supporting outputs, populate the authored chart series, and apply derived numeric checks.
  6. Return the workbook status with the computed results; invalid input is never converted into a plausible engineering answer.

Assumptions and limitations

  • All shipped defaults are synthetic and illustrative.

  • Void deductions are total cubic feet for each row.

  • Reinforcement layout is a separate user-specified quantity exercise.

  • Structural adequacy, reinforcement design, concrete mix, excavation, formwork, subgrade, frost protection, placement, and curing procedures are not determined.

  • A licensed engineer and qualified concrete professional must establish project requirements.

Restrictions and non-computing states

Each numeric control offers a working range chosen for usable entry, which is not always the limit this calculator enforces; a value outside that limit is rejected with a message rather than quietly accepted. The calculator additionally enforces allowed choices, active-field types, complete fixed-grid rows, and conditional or cross-field rules before computing.

Unsupported route values, incomplete rows, out-of-domain inputs, relational failures, nonfinite derived arithmetic, and workbook error tokens are non-computing states. Hidden inputs remain in the values sent to the calculator but must not affect results while those fields are inactive.

Errors and warnings

A rejected entry means the submitted state failed the published input rules. Workbook NOT VALID identifies an invalid active domain or unsupported derived arithmetic. Workbook CHECK retains a finite result while flagging a planning condition that needs review. OK means only that the delivered workbook logic closed within the entered assumptions; it is not code compliance, professional approval, or a safety guarantee.

This version is checked against 185 saved test cases, covering both calculated results and entries that should be refused, run against this exact workbook.
